The title of this post says it all really: my latest picture book — in rhyme — is published today by Andersen Press, illustrated by the very fab Adrian Reynolds. And as Adrian and I go back a long way, even sharing an eccentric landlord once, it’s fun to finally collaborate on a project together.
It is a bit strange for me to be back in my picture book hat though, after spending so much time working on fiction over the last few years. This book was actually contracted… oh, I can’t even remember when. 2009, perhaps. It’s been beset by delays since, but I think it was worth the wait. It’s out in the US today too, though I’ve been warned there might be a slight delay actually getting hold of a copy from Amazon, if anyone is good enough to try. Just a few days.
What is it about? Well, there’s a brother and a sister. The brother wants a pet, and delights in imagining all the strange and exotic and sometimes bonkers pets you can get. The sister? She just loves her guinea pig. But that’s so BOOORING, as her brother is quick to point out. But is it really? Give the guinea a chance, bro, because everyone has something fun to bring to the party.
Fun to read out loud (hopefully!) with some crazy pictures. See it on Amazon here.
