More pages from my sketchbook, this time after bothering a miniature Dachshund. Everyone thinks they know what a sausage dog looks like, but it was only through exploring this one’s form on paper that I discovered how complex and surprising such a dog really is (otter paws and a wrinkled smile?). Which is what sketching is all about, of course. Some of these drawings stink, but thatโs the point too. Click for a closer look.
you certainly captured the essence ๐ lovely drawings
Beautiful drawings, wonderful Higgins.Carol xx
Thanks Pip, thanks Carol:)
loved seeing him from all those angles- you really captured it! NOt to mention those kinds of dogs are adorable:) Nice to have discovered your blog! New follower here
Many thanks, Creepy Query Girl. I'm off to check out your blog too. With a title like that, It's sure to be an interesting place:)
Have you seen David Hockney's drawings of dachshunds?
I have, Will. They're, er, slightly better than mine.
Wow, these are beautiful! I love the ones of him having a snooze.
Thanks, Emma ๐
Marvellous stuff, Thomas. I was drawing a sausage dog character in a few pages of comic strip recently but he was so cartoonified that his sausage dogness was pretty weak. These put me to shame.
Thanks, Dave. I find these 'warts 'n' all' type sketchbook pages fascinating, though my own make me cringe a bit.
